Care with the pieces

Don't let time erase the charm of Leitão & Irmão pieces. Learn how to take care of them properly and enjoy their beauty for a lifetime.

SILVERWARE IN GENERAL

We would like to point out some maintenance and cleaning precautions.

Your observance will keep your silverware in like-new condition for many, many dozens of years, gaining the patina that so enhances works of art.

It is important to note that new pieces have undergone a manual manufacturing process involving temperatures of around 1000 degrees Celsius. Oxidation on new silver pieces is rapid and tends to decrease with each cleaning.

It is possible and normal for small stains to appear which are easily removed with any commercial silver cleaner.

Do not use cleaning products in which you immerse the entire piece in a liquid. It may alter the different glosses of the hand polish.

Wash with a soft toothbrush in warm water and anti-grease detergent, alcohol or ammonia-based products (glass cleaner is the best suggestion). Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth.

Using any silver cleaner from a recognised brand the pieces can and should be cleaned without restriction. Cleaning benefits the silver and does not wear or damage it in any way.

Any commercial silver cleaning product can be used. Soak a cotton pad with the product, spread it over the piece and then wipe it with a clean, dry soft cloth.

We recommend special care for the polished surfaces of the workpiece.

A dirty cloth can scratch what is, however, repairable.

After the first few cleanings, one to two cleanings per year will be sufficient.

JEWELLERY

Jewellery maintenance, in particular cleaning, can and should be done at home.

The jewellery is washed in water. The main precaution is never to throw the water away without first checking that no stones are missing from the jewellery you have cleaned. If a stone is missing, it will be at the bottom of the container you washed the jewellery in. Once you are sure that no stones are missing, you can pour the water out and add clean water for the final wash.

Always keep your jewellery preserved, one by one, for example in a soft cloth bag or in the original case.

Do not store jewellery in contact with each other. The stones will scratch.
