Smooth-haired dachshund
The smooth-coated Dachshund is very independent and requires gentle, consistent and patient training. It is a breed that is very attached to its family, usually to one member of the family in particular, and can be reserved with strangers.
Its origins date back to 15th century Germany. However, these specimens have appeared in ancient Egyptian and Mexican art and the remains of a similar dog have been found in Italy, dating back to the 1st century AD. The German breed standard was established in 1879 and the breed club was founded in 1888. Dachshunds were exported to Great Britain through Prince Albert and became popular in England and America throughout the 19th century.
