Portuguese Podengo
One of the oldest breeds in the world, the Portuguese Podengo is both an exceptional hunting dog and an excellent companion dog. Intelligent and easy to train, it is increasingly chosen by Portuguese families as their dog of choice.
Intelligence and courage are characteristics shared by Podengos, all of which make excellent companion animals. Very attached to their family and excellent with children, they can suffer from separation or loneliness.
Adapting to both outdoor and indoor living, as well as hot and humid climates, the Portuguese Podengo makes a good watchdog, alerting owners, often in an exaggerated manner, to the presence of strangers. This alert is different from the peculiar bark it emits to the rest of the pack when hunting, known by hunters as "maticar" or "cantar".
