House Leitão

Sustainability

Since 1822, House Leitão has stood for excellence in jewellery manufacturing.
Longevity brings with it the responsibility to deliver excellence. Excellence in the quality of the offer, in the way it is produced, in the way it respects the materials, the jewellery techniques and the people who produce and market them.

Manufacturing Values of Leitão & Irmão

Quality of excellence

Manufacturing according to the most rigorous goldsmithing and jewellery techniques, combined with technological innovation, guarantees exceptional quality.

Certified raw materials of known origin

Gemstones from conflict-free areas, gold and silver certified by the Portuguese Mint and punch manufacturer Leitão & Irmão.

Own design

The in-house design office, with a close relationship with the workshop, allows the creation of pieces that combine aesthetics with quality.

Local production

At the Leitão & Irmão workshops in Bairro Alto, jewellers, goldsmiths and silversmiths learn their trade for 10 years from the masters.

Social Responsibility

The great differentiating characteristic of Leitão & Irmão is manufacturing.

Craftsmanship is made up of people, who put their art and their knowledge into the pieces they produce. House Leitão continuously contributes to the training of new artisans, collaborating with schools and making its workshops available to those who are willing to learn a dying art.

It takes a goldsmith 10 years to learn his trade. In the Leitão & Irmão workshops, young people learn from the masters, creating a unique synergy of knowledge and a multigenerational culture.

The materials we use

Precious Metals

The precious metals purchased come only from suppliers with RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) accreditation or CoC (Chain of Custody) certification, which ensures monitoring from extraction in the mine to commercialisation as a raw material.

Leitão & Irmão is constantly monitoring responsible manufacturing, valuing what is most precious, its employees and ensuring through certification and origin of raw materials the best manufacturing practices for sustainable luxury.

Gemstones

All gemstones used in Leitão & Irmão pieces are "Conflict Free", i.e. from conflict-free areas where their extraction and commercialisation chain comes from fair trade.

Diamonds

All stones larger than 0.50ct are sold with the respective report that guarantees the cut, colour, carat and purity.

Leitão & Irmão is the ambassador for Portugal of HRD, one of the European gemstone certification laboratories, recognised worldwide.

Jewellery cleaning

"In nature, nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is transformed"

Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Reduction

We only use the required amount of precious metals for the intended purpose. Allowing pieces with the right weight and avoiding waste of materials.

Re-utilisation

Nature has limits. Scraps and leftovers of precious metals go back to the foundry to generate new pieces. The gems are de-stoned, cleaned, polished and put back into new pieces.

Recycling

Precious metals, platinum, gold and silver are purchased by Leitão & Irmão in their pure state. The vast majority already comes from recycling from different industrial activities.
Gold and silver recycling is also practised on an ongoing basis in our workshops.
