Wire-haired dachshund
The Wirehaired Dachshund is a very independent dog, requiring gentle, consistent and patient training. A breed that is very attached to its family and usually to one family member in particular, but they can be reserved with strangers.
Dachshunds date back to 15th century Germany. However, they have appeared in ancient Egyptian and Mexican art and the remains of a similar dog have been found in Italy, dating back to the 1st century AD. The German breed standard was established in 1879 and the breed club was founded in 1888. Dachshunds were exported to Great Britain through Prince Albert and became popular in England and America throughout the 19th century. Standard Dachshunds were used as hunting dogs, mainly to hunt badgers.
