The Royal Collection, by Leitão & Irmão and the Royal Treasure Museum, revives the jewels of the Portuguese Crown, blending tradition and innovation in pieces inspired by the monarchy and the national jewelry heritage.

In the world of high jewelry, few names carry such a significant legacy as Leitão & Irmão. With a history spanning over two centuries, the jewelry house, which earned the prestigious Title of Jewellers to the Portuguese Crown, was featured this week on the Marketeer podcast, Marcas com Marca. Jorge Leitão, the current head of Leitão & Irmão, shared the history and stories that, over the years, have shaped the family since its founding.

“We must not fall into the temptation of lowering the level of quality to cut costs.” So says Jorge Leitão, the current head of Leitão & Irmão, the company founded in 1822 in Porto, whose history is deeply intertwined with that of Portuguese jewellery and goldsmithing — after all, it was once considered the jeweller to the Portuguese crown.

The Royal Treasure Museum and the bicentennial Leitão & Irmão join forces to celebrate the fusion between the art of master jewellers and the creations made for the Monarchy, through The Royal Collection – a collection inspired by a visit to the Museum. From 27 March, the Royal Treasure Museum will also include in its permanent collection a replica of the Royal Warrant appointing Leitão & Irmão as Jewellers to the Portuguese Crown.

This collection, a creation by the house of Leitão & Irmão, is on display for a month at the Royal Treasure Museum. Among the pieces exhibited is a platinum ring set with 43 diamonds.
