I was asked by Casa Leitão's marketing department to write a short text about the family to mark the Christmas season. That Leitão e Irmão is a family jewelry store and I should be the one to write it.
It's certainly a privilege to serve the same family for generations. Serving is invariably the theme. In life and in the family.
Throughout my time at Joalharia Leitão & Irmão, there are many stories that make this house a “family house”. Leaving aside the names for clear reasons of modesty, I remember making the wedding rings for different friends of my generation in the late 1950s and engraving the names of my first son and grandson, the fruit of that family, on a beautiful gold medal depicting the guardian angel, modeled by our resident sculptor and inspired by the “little angel” of “Raphael”, one of the great names of the Renaissance.

This morning, December 2024, already wrapped up in the magic of Christmas, I was reading the recent book “Aura Miguel Invites” by this prominent Vatican journalist.
I remember the interview with Gentil Martins, a surgeon and a major figure in our country, with whom my sister Cristina, a young doctor, had the privilege of doing an internship at the IPO. I remember visiting her at the hospital “disguised” in a doctor's coat stolen by her sister.
I reproduce a paragraph from the text on page 11, from the interview with Dr. Gentil Martins:
"“Well, Veiga Simão told me so” (Minister of Education before and after April 25) ‘Dr. Gentil Martins, it was a pity, on April 25, they didn't leave ’God, Homeland and Family' and add freedom, which was what was needed. They were left with just freedom, which was misinterpreted and ruined everything.” I thought that was very funny.""
