Flora

The Flora collection draws on the silent rhythms of nature, the shapes which repeat, grow and multiply: overlapping petals, fruit ripening in segments, and seeds holding the promise of growth and life. The pieces feature layered, segmented volumes evoking petals, seeds and flowers, while coloured precious stones reinforce the connection to the natural world, bringing vitality, light and diversity. The collection's aesthetic finds a link in the singular vision of two figures who observed nature beyond its immediate appearance. Georgia O'Keeffe, the American modernist painter known as the mother of American modernism, didn't paint flowers and landscapes, but rather the experience of observing them: by enlarging petals and moving close into detail, she turned natural elements into near-abstract compositions, revealing their sensuality, strength and complexity. The broad, enveloping shapes of the Flora pieces reference that magnified, almost sculptural vision of the floral world. Karl Blossfeldt, the German photographer and sculptor, devoted his life to photographing the structure and surfaces of plants with unprecedented magnification, revealing coiled shoots, seeds, stems and petals resembling architectural sculptures, nature appearing as a perfect work of design. It's that meticulous observation of plant forms that Flora reinterprets, translating repetition, symmetry and growth into segmented volumes and successive layers. Each piece is manufactured at the Leitão & Irmão workshops in Lisbon. Flora invites us to look closely at nature.
